About SHS | Why Springfield High? |
|
Springfield High opened in September 2008 and serves approximately 2000 students from Springfield and those from surrounding areas who choose us through open enrollment. We are proud to serve a diverse student body in a school which allows each student to personalize his or her education. Our highly qualified staff and our extensive course offerings combine to meet the needs of students with special gifts and students with special needs. Our state-of-the-art new building is organized to support up to six small learning communities, and as we begin 2010/2011 our students will choose among five Academies: Preparatory, Exploratory, STEM, International Arts and Communications, and Health and Human Services. Students may "cross over" to take courses from any Academy as they customize the educational pathway to best prepare for college and careers. For more information, explore this website or contact Dr. Chris Shaffer, Campus Director, at 937-505-4320. We welcomed Ohio's Governor, Ted Strickland, on February 12th. Following his visit, Governor Strickland said he found "many of the things I'd like to see happening all over Ohio are here in Springfield High.
We take our responsibility as the area's largest high school seriously and we embrace our role in preparing our students to be successful in college and careers. On September 7th, 2008 students joined Mayor Copeland to cut a ceremonial ribbon at our Dedication.
